Dolly is always welcome at Gaycondo
This Christmas I bought a USB record player for Jon (and kind of for myself). Our old record player broke years a go which is a real shame since we have such a great collection, especially when it comes to Dolly Parton. Finally we can convert everything to mp3’s and rediscover all that we have. We’re most proud of this record:

It’s her debut album from 1967, she was only about 18 or 19 years old. Even though she’s still heavily made up here she looks so natural in comparison to the Dolly most of us know. It’s very rare even though Jon found it at a used record store for only 3 dollars. They had no idea what they had. It’s an incredible record, too. She wrote most of the songs which are mostly on the upbeat, poppy side. Since I’m not tech-savvy enough to get an mp3 up on this post I’ll just show you this video of a queen from Halifax lip-syncing to the break-out hit of the album. It’s called “Dumb Blonde”:
I also recently finished reading Dolly’s 1994 memoir:

I bought it on e-bay for a penny and for a couple of weeks everyone at gay condo was reading passages here and there whenever they got bored. It’s a pretty good read, the beginning has lots of funny anecdotes about her hillbilly childhood. I also learned that she’s huge in Great Britain, who knew? I could ramble on about my love for Dolly but I’ll leave you with this video of her singing her favorite song she’s ever written.

Good post. Dolly is a god. She gave one of my fave quotes of all time – “When my time comes, I hope I drop dead on stage… and I hope it’s in the middle of a song I wrote”. Gotta love that…
